    Legislative Activity Remain ONSA’s
Top Priority & You can Help!

ONSA was involved in many of the debates that made Oregon’s 2003 legislative session long and difficult.

Since excise taxes on beer and wine are generally considered a likely revenue source, ONSA became embroiled in the beer tax debate from the start of the session to the finish. But there were many other issues that ONSA monitored and lobbied during 2003, some of primary interest to retailers like the beer tax and the cigarette tax and others with the
potential to impact businesses of any type.

There were more than 200 individual bills affecting labor, unemployment, land use, licensing, lottery, workers’ compensation, sales taxes, capital gains taxes, tort liability, just to name a FEW!

The value of your ONSA membership is the ability to actively be involved in the legislative process—to protect your business—but without requiring your personal time at the State Capitol. With your membership, you have a legislative advocate and regulatory advocate who is looking after your business interests and who will help you evaluate the impact of a legislative proposal or interpret the regulatory requirements in a new law.

Remember ONSA–PAC Contributions 2004 is certain to bring new challenges and ONSA needs the support of all neighborhood store owners as
members or as supporters of ONSA’s legislative goals through the association’s Political Action Committee, ONSA-PAC.

Even if you have not been a dues paying member of ONSA during the past year, you can offer your support for the association’s legislative goals and help increase ONSA voice during the upcoming2004 election year. With Oregon’s Political Tax Credit program you can make an individual contribution of $50 or $100 per couple to the ONSA-PAC and receive all of your money back when you file your taxes. This is a tax credit —not just a partial deduction!

Send your check for any amount up to $50 for an individual tax filer (or any amount up to $100 if filing jointly) to:

ONSA–PAC
1270 Chemeketa St. NE
Salem, OR 97301

Please include your full mailing address, so that ONSA will be able to return a receipt for your taxes. Election law requires ONSA to record your occupation and employer’s name. For the self employed store owners, please include the
name of your business.

Your support for ONSA–PAC will strengthen ONSA’s legislative program for the next session. Legislative involvement begins with the election cycle and showing your support for the candidates with a political philosophy that matches your own. Take advantage of Oregon’s Political Tax Credit program to support a political action committee that supports the issues important to you — at no cost!

Remember that in order to be effective in representing you and your business ONSA needs your help. You can support ONSA and the legislative program by becoming a member of ONSA or by making a contribution to ONSA-PAC. A membership application is conveniently
located on the back panel and your ONSA-PAC donation may be sent to the same address, or by download.
