    2003 Compliance Check Winners!

ONSA applauds all of the stores and store clerks who successfully passed one of
the compliance checks conducted by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission or local
police departments this year — Congratulations!
A tally of OLCC press releases through the end of November indicates an overall
failure rate of about 28%. That means that store clerks are successfully refusing to sell
alcohol to minors approximately 72% of the time.
It is also worth noting for the neighborhood store owners and employees who strive
to be responsible alcohol vendors that the failure rate among what we classified as
neighborhood stores was approximately 15%. If combined motor fuel and convenience
store operations are included, the total failure rate increases to 25%; however, this is still
markedly below the failure rate for other alcohol operations, such as bars, restaurants,
taverns and delis. In total, that category accounted for nearly 56% of the failures. •

Success or Failure

There is always something to be learned from our mistakes. Based on this, ONSA is inviting
anyone who has experienced a compliance check to share their
story.

Tell us what occurred, how your employee handled the situation, what was done right and
what other neighborhood stores can learn from your compliance check experience.

Write to ONSA [E-mail:
contact@onsa.net ] or give us
a call [503–316-9638] and tell
us what advice you would pass
along to others before next year’s
compliance checks begin.

We can all learn something!
